Collaboration

Collaboration is my favourite part of working on the new Killeroo series.

While most locally published books are often solitary affairs, something that gets me excited about working on comics is talking to multiple creative people and getting the best of everyone’s ideas into the project. Different perspectives I believe also improves the quality of the work too, as what may seem like a great idea in isolation often doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, or at the very least can be improved upon before it sees print.

It’s like having multiple editors, but in a good way!

It’s definitely something that’s held up Killeroo from being published for so many years – I’ve constantly been coming up with ideas, but with only myself for counsel they’ve always evaporated under the cloud of self-doubt and worry. I greatly admire those who can push through this and stubbornly push themselves to get things done in this fashion, to forge ahead and produce – which is the only way to get better at their craft.

With a group of people all striving to make a good story (and all willing to put up with my constant little ‘suggestions’!) it’s hard not to be excited about the prospects of the new book.

And when you get little nuggets of goodness in your email like the character sketch below by Ryan Wilton, it gets everyone pumped!
